The Type 519 Document-Originating Machine is a unit in which IBM cards may be punched automatically. Reproducing, end printing, and gang punching are combined in the basic machine. Comparing, summary punching, and the mark sensing device are optional features which may be incorporated when specified. For summary punching operations the machine is attached to the Accounting Machine by means of a flexible cable; for all other operations the machine is used independently.

REPRODUCING: All or any part of the information, either numerical or alphabetical, punched in one set of cards can be punched in the same or different order into another set of cards. Reproducing is done at the speed of 100 cards per minute regardless of the number of columns punched.

GANG PUNCHING: Punching of information from a master card into a group of detail cards. Reproducing and gang punching may be accomplished simultaneously; that is, while information is being reproduced into a group of cards, additional data may be gang punched from a prepunched master card. Gang punching is done also at 100 cards per minute.

END PRINTING: As many as eight characters of numerical information punched in the card may be interpreted on the left end of the same card or transcribed to another card. There are two printing positions, one 5/16" from the left edge of the card, and one 5/8" from the left edge of the card.

COMPARING: Verifying of either reproducing or gang punching operations. This feature is incorporated in the machine, if specified, for either 45 or 80 columns. The comparing feature checks the original cards against the reproduced cards; it checks the accuracy of gang punching; and it indicates that information punched from two sources has been coordinated correctly into a single card. In any of the above operations, a discrepancy between cards being compared will be indicated by a signal light and the machine will stop.

SUMMARY PUNCHING: Punching into a total or new balance card amounts which have been accumulated in either the Type 402, 403, 404, 405, 407, or 416 Accounting Machine, as specified. Either debit or credit balances can be identified by the automatic punching of an X in any desired CDlumn. Reproducing, gang punching (one master card only), and summary punching can be performed at the same time.

The Mark Sensing device-by which pencil marks on cards are converted automatically into punched holes in any columns of the cards-may be added to this machine. Other special devices which may be incorporated are the Gang Punch Emitter, the Double Punch and Blank Column Detection Device, and the Offset Stacker.
